Brief Description

We at Network Rail are currently advertising for an Area Plant Manager for the Wessex Route. Located in London or Basingstoke you will lead and direct the co-ordination of plant equipment including on track plant (OTP).

This exciting opportunity is for someone who wants a new challenge to further their career. The role is wide and diverse and will require you to travel throughout the route from London to Weymouth. As part of this fantastic opportunity, you will have a strong understanding of the Plant Operations Scheme (POS) and a good knowledge of the railway industry. You will be aligned to a specific area of the business, so you’ll get to develop relationships and understand the impact of the work you do. About the role

Key Accountabilities

1.Lead and direct the On Track Plant Specialist(s) to achieve business and functional objectives and meet key performance measures.

2.Liaise with the Delivery Units, Works Delivery organisation and suppliers to optimise the overall route requirements for plant, equipment including OTP, specialist mobile plant, portable plant and general plant maintenance arrangements.

3.Identify opportunities across the route to maximise cross functional and route benefits associated with sharing resources and equipment.

4.Manage route OTP plans to meet business timescales and budgets, identify correct plant, attachments and transport arrangements in connection within specific task requirements. Coordinate activities with the On Track Plant Specialist(s) for the correct selection of plant.

5.Identify, recommend and act as the route point of contact for identifying and managing plant purchases, investment papers, business cases.

6.Carry out compliance, planned preventative maintenance & productivity monitoring and report on plant performance.

7.Manage the effective resourcing of plan changes and emergency works.

8.Manage the arrangements for staff safety and competence. Undertake appropriate safety tours, staff surveillance, work quality and condition checks of Regions plant.

9.Investigate and report upon suspected irregular workings and operational issues involving plant.

10.Act as arbiter when required as a consequence of insufficient plant and resource being available.

11.Act as the key route interface with National Supply Chain for control of RRV fleet.

Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Essential

•Experience in OTP and general plant management, planning processes and techniques.

•Knowledge of safety and compliance management processes.

•Knowledge of track access planning processes.

•Knowledge of other functional disciplines.

•Detailed knowledge of relevant standards and procedures.

•Good Knowledge of the Wessex operational railway environment and logistics required to service the route.

•Good interpersonal, influencing, communication and organisation skills.

•Good Knowledge of railway and construction, off tracks (civil) plant markets.

•Good knowledge of railway training and competence requirements to operate plant and equipment.

Desirable

•Knowledge of Regions maintenance processes and techniques

•Good Commercial awareness of route plant budget and management
