RPS is looking for a Director to join our Major Projects Team, part of our Planning Division but which works collaboratively with our Environment Division, based at our Head Office in Abingdon. Your role

As Director in the Major Projects team, you will be working on some of our biggest infrastructure and renewables projects across the UK and in a collaborative manner with professional Planners and Environmental consultants across the UK business. This is a key position where you will have the opportunity to build multi-disciplinary teams, mentor and strive to develop their professional skills and capabilities. You’ll be contributing towards the success of the business and team through the effective delivery of a wide variety of projects, ensuring development of client relationships and by securing new business.

You’ll be managing client relationships, successfully securing and completing instructions and contributing to the team’s wider business development initiatives. You’ll generate new and repeat business, as well as provide professional consultancy advice and services to our clients and colleagues. The Major Project Team is also responsible for coordinating and supporting our submissions for frameworks, large tenders supporting other teams within the Division and supporting other offices where necessary.

Your skills and experience


We’d like you to have a relevant degree (or equivalent) and be qualified MRTPI or in another relevant discipline. You’ll be an expert in your field, a highly experienced and competent practitioner who has experience in major infrastructure projects and those relating to Development Control Orders, as well as possessing strong leadership qualities. You should also have experience of appearing as an expert witness in Examinations in Public as well as Public Inquiries.

You’ll have strong people management capabilities, be a creative and strategic thinker with strong negotiating techniques and a track record of taking ownership of and achieving outcomes for clients, business, teams and self. You will have an established market reputation with a demonstrable record of winning sustainable and commercially viable projects. Good financial and project management skills are essential, as are great influencing and communication skills that enable you to build, maintain and consolidate strong working relationships with colleagues, clients and external bodies.
