RPS is looking for an experienced Senior or Principal Carbon and Climate Change Consultant (based in Brighton, Oxford or London) to join us in this key role as a member of our UK Planning Division. RPS is a leading global multi-disciplinary consultancy and we specialise in all areas of the built and natural environment, shaping the future of our environmental, social and economic landscapes.

The role

You'll be joining our EIA & Sustainability Team working with our highly knowledgeable consultants who are experts in their field. You will be responsible for providing carbon & climate assessments for development projects, quantifying GHG emissions, evaluating climate risks, and preparing Environmental Statement chapters. You will also give expert advice to private and public sector organisations on net zero carbon strategies, emission reduction actions and disclosure of GHG emissions and climate risks to UK and international reporting standards.

The role will include bidding for and delivering small to medium sized projects together with working in our established team on larger and strategic projects. You’ll prepare client proposals, manage the production of deliverables in line with the client’s expectations and to agreed timescales, and manage project finances and team members’ inputs.

Your skills/experience

You’ll have a relevant degree (or equivalent) and typically an MSc or further qualification in EIA, energy or sustainability.You will bring an enthusiastic and knowledgeable approach to advising clients on GHG reduction actions and quantifying emissions robustly and will be used to being in a client-facing role.

We’d like you to have solid experience either of the EIA process and policy for development projects, and/or experience of developing low-carbon strategies at an organisational level. You’ll have a proven ability to personally deliver technical assessments accurately and to provide high quality reporting. Experience managing junior staff in this area will be an advantage but is not essential.

Good financial and project management skills are a must, as are great communication skills to build, maintain and consolidate strong working relationships with colleagues, clients and external bodies.
